Salmon Lake State Park occupies forty-two acres on the eastern shore of Salmon Lake in western Montana, within the Clearwater River chain between the Mission and Swan ranges. Created in 1977 after Champion Timberlands Corporation donated the land in memory of three foresters killed in a plane crash near Kalispell the previous year, it combines commemorative origins with public recreation. Wooded mountains and the lake shape the setting, with ponderosa pine, western larch, and Douglas fir surrounding waters that support trout, kokanee salmon, bass, perch, and northern pike. The area also attracts notable birdlife and provides swimming, boating, camping, and access to a broader mountain-lake landscape.
