Hoʻomaluhia Botanical Garden is a roughly 400-acre public rainforest garden in Kāneʻohe on Oahu, created in 1982 by the United States Army Corps of Engineers as a flood-control landscape. Its broad valley setting still combines water management with botanical display and recreation. Part of the Honolulu Botanical Gardens, it organizes plantings by major tropical regions, including Africa, Hawaii, India and Sri Lanka, Malaysia, and Polynesia, with special emphasis on conserving native Hawaiian and Polynesian plants. It is also known for palms, aroids, heliconias, and rarely seen species such as the açaí tree, along with a 32-acre lake, trails, campgrounds, and educational facilities.
