Cedar Key Museum State Park preserves the local history and natural setting of this Gulf Coast community through a historic house museum, collections, and landscaped grounds. Developed from the collections of Cedar Key resident Saint Clair Whitman, the site includes shells, Indian artifacts, dioramas of local life, and other historical materials related to the area. Its centerpiece is the Saint Clair Whitman House, built in the 1880s, acquired by Whitman in the 1920s, moved to the grounds in 1991, and restored to reflect life in Cedar Key around 1920 to 1930. A nature trail and a remembrance of John Muir’s 1867 visit connect local history with the surrounding environment.
