This structure was used to store hay and straw to protect it from the weather. The simple open-sided building was first developed by the Germans and came to us through the Pennsylvania Dutch, who called it a "shotscheier." This pole barn was constructed in 1983 to replace the original pole barn, which was similar to design but located on a slightly different site.
