Mount Vision is a mountain in Central New York near Cooperstown, rising above the country south-southeast of Otsego Lake. Its lasting significance comes from a moment in 1785, when Judge Cooper’s father first saw Otsego Lake from this height. Judge Cooper later gave the mountain its name in memory of that sighting. Through that association, Mount Vision became part of the early settlement story of the Cooperstown region and gained an identity rooted in the area’s beginnings.
