The Neo-Classical house at 621 S. Rice, designed by Waco architect T. Brooks Pearson, was constructed in 1913 by Arthur Richelieu Eidson and served as the family residence until 1964. A.R. Eidson, born in 1875 and died in 1941, was the son of Associate Justice J.A. Eidson of the Court of Civil Appeals, 3rd District, and the grandson of early pioneers James M. Rice and Elizabeth Standifer Rice. He was admitted to the bar in 1895, elected county attorney in 1896, chosen district presidential elector in 1904, and elected district attorney in 1906. He later served as Texas Democratic Party Chair during the turbulent gubernatorial terms of Jim and Miriam "Pa and Ma" Ferguson. His wife, Lenora "Nora" Abshier Eidson, raised their two daughters, "JA" and Eunice, in the house.
