Turkey Creek School began in 1873 in a one-room log cabin at Beaty's Corner. By 1903, the small Bledsoe and Pleasant Grove schools had been consolidated into Turkey Creek School on property along Edwards Road. It was one of several schools in eastern Hillsborough County that followed the "Strawberry School" concept, operating from March to December so children could work during the winter strawberry season in fields and packing houses, labor that was essential to the local economy of small farms dependent on family labor and sharecropping. Debate over this system in the 1950s ended the era on July 27, 1956. In 1908, the Hillsborough County School Board bought the initial five-acre property at the current site from the Tampa Bay Land and Lumber Company and built a new two-story frame building. In 1908 and 1909, Turkey Creek Senior High School graduated six students. In 1910, the school board closed the senior high school and reduced instruction to grades 1 through 8, and the school continued as a grade school from 1910 to 1928. A new two-story brick building was completed in 1927, and high school courses were added again. The next senior high graduating class was in 1932, and senior high instruction continued through 1972. In 1938, after a new U-shaped building was completed by the WPA, a new two-story brick building became the elementary school. In 1961, the elementary grades moved to the new J.S. Robinson Elementary School just north of the campus. In 1972, the senior high school ended because Turkey Creek, Pinecrest, Plant City, and Marshall high schools were consolidated into Plant City Consolidated Senior High School. The school then operated as a junior high and later became Turkey Creek Middle School in 1995. The campus was modified and expanded in 1963, 1977, 1986, and 1998. The two-story brick building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
