Canyon School was built in 1925 especially for Spanish-speaking children to meet their language needs. Parents were offered classes in citizenship, health, and homemaking. The school originally had eight classrooms, and additions were built in 1934, 1936, and 1952. It was later renamed Barbara Webster School in honor of its first principal.
