The Yankee Flyer Diner was a cornerstone of downtown Nashua and stood on this site until it was sold in 1965 and moved to Newburyport, Massachusetts, marking the end of an era. A mural painted by James Aponovich in 1997 captures life in Nashua in the 1940s and 50s and includes local figures such as waitress Lucille Ravenelle Tessler; Henry Willett in a vintage car; Jim and Sandy Stellos in the Stellos electric truck; Ana Aponovich selling the Nashua Telegraph; Eliot Carter; Bernard Pastor; Peter Pleakas; Chris Kyriax, owner of the diner, whose widow Mary Anne became the last owner after his death in 1952; Jared Goyette; Fred Robichaud with William Reich and Mrs. Reich; Muriel Shaw; Samuel Coronis, founder of Coronis Cleaners in 1936; physicians William Thibodeau, Charles Goyette, and Normand Cote; Gary Wingate, great-grandson of Frank H. Wingate, founder of Wingate's Pharmacy in 1900; and a sidewalk inscription, "MERI WAS HERE," for Meri Goyette, who promoted downtown Nashua beautification and revitalization and initiated the mural project. In 2015, City Arts Nashua organized a community project to restore the mural, and James Aponovich, assisted by Elizabeth Johansson Aponovich, restored it in their Peterborough studio before it was reinstalled and dedicated on November 28, 2015.
