In 1781, James Whittaker, identified as Ohio's first White settler, and Elizabeth Foulks, both prisoners of the Wyandots, married in captivity, and the Wyandots gave them 1280 acres. The site of the James Whittaker home, this 480 acre farm is the last undeveloped section of the Whittaker Reserve. Protected for posterity by Black Swamp Conservancy, it remains the historically oldest property in the State of Ohio so future generations may enjoy it.
