Wompatuck State Park spans about 3,500 acres in southeastern Massachusetts, centered in Hingham and extending into Cohasset, Norwell, and Scituate. Its history reaches from the land’s association with Native leader Josiah Wompatuck, who deeded it to English settlers in 1655, to its twentieth-century use as the Hingham Naval Ammunition Depot Annex from 1941 to 1965. Remnants of that military era, including visible bunkers, old structures, and abandoned railroad stretches, remain in the landscape. Today the park combines this layered past with extensive recreation, including campgrounds, paved bicycle routes, multiuse trails, a boat ramp, seasonal hunting, and the distinctive Mt. Blue Spring.
