From 1861 to 1865, the people of Jenkins County honored Confederate soldiers as men whom power could not corrupt, death could not terrify, and defeat could not dishonor. It honored those who served the Confederacy, those who fought, those who fell, and their comrades, praising their simple manhood, strict adherence to the principals of right, sublime courage, and unspeakable sacrifices, even to the heroism of death, and holding that through the gloom of defeat they preserved a priceless heritage of honor.
