Raven Rocks is a projecting ridge on the western face of Blue Ridge Mountain in Jefferson County, West Virginia, near the point where West Virginia meets Clarke and Loudoun counties in Virginia. Formed by drainage gorges carved by Rocky Branch Creek to the north and Raven Rocks Creek to the south, both flowing toward the Shenandoah River, it is the northernmost of a chain of spurs and hollows extending south to Ashby Gap. Its most noted feature is the Crescent Rock cliffs, and the Appalachian Trail crosses the ridge’s saddle in the up-and-down stretch hikers call the rollercoaster.
