Smyrna Baptist Church was organized in 1827 as Kirkland Church, and its name was changed in 1836. Title to the site was conveyed in 1849 by William I. Mixon, and additional land was given in 1882 by Thomas H. Willingham to extend the church property to the Matthew's Bluff Road.
