On April 6, 1970, four young California Highway Patrolmen were killed in the line of duty: George M. Alleyn, James E. Pence, Roger D. Gore, and Walter C. Frago. Ronald Reagan, Governor of California, said they gave their lives early that day to protect their fellow citizens without hesitation, accepting heroism and devotion to duty as part of their job.
