Circuit riders served this church from 1847 to 1853, and it was formally established on 18 October 1853. It was the first painted church in northwest Georgia and, during the war, the only church where Union and Confederate soldiers worshipped together in the same service. In April 1864 it was a Union field hospital, and it was restored in 2002.
