Gibson Pass Ski Area, commonly called Manning Park Ski Area, developed after the Hope–Princeton Highway opened in 1949 and improved access to E. C. Manning Provincial Park. Earlier ski layouts in the area shifted before the Gibson Pass site succeeded, beginning with a twin rope tow whose original building still remains. The Blue Chair began operating in December 1967, and the Orange Chair followed in 1970, serving as the main lift for decades. Long operated by the Province of British Columbia, the area passed to private operation in 1986. After closing in 2013, it quickly reopened under new ownership. Its significance lies in its long recreational history and the survival of the 1967 Blue Chair.
