Jeremiah S. Black, one of Pennsylvania's most noted jurists and lawyers, was born here on Jan. 10, 1810. He served as a State Supreme Court Justice from 1851 to 1857 and as U.S. Attorney-General from 1857 to 1860. His later life was spent at York as a famous lawyer, and he died on Aug. 19, 1883.
