Mount Cammerer rises on the northeastern edge of the Great Smoky Mountains along the Tennessee–North Carolina line, where it is widely recognized for its restored stone fire lookout and sweeping views. Once called White Rock for its pale quartzite outcrops, and sometimes Sharptop on North Carolina maps, it was renamed for Arno B. Cammerer, a key figure in establishing Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The mountain’s sandstone and faulted slopes reflect geologic processes reaching back about a billion years. Its surroundings also preserve human history, from mountain farming and moonshining to Civilian Conservation Corps trail building and the 1937 summit lookout, now a popular hiking destination.
