The congregation worshipped in a school until this church building was erected from 1877 to 1879 under pastors G.S. Sandel and J.M. Pugh. Pioneer citizen Capt. T.W. Smith gave the bell for the steeple, and cabinetmaker E.A. Anderson made the pews and chancel rail. It became a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1965.
