Wommack Kiln is a historic pottery site in rural central Dallas County, Arkansas, preserving part of the region’s late nineteenth-century ceramics industry. Built in 1891 by John Welch after he left an earlier pottery site established in the 1880s, it is considered the best preserved among several pottery works founded in Dallas County during the later nineteenth century. Its significance lies in its survival as an especially important example of the county’s local craft tradition. The site’s historic value was formally recognized when it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.
