Powell Gardens in Kingsville, Missouri, is a 970-acre botanical garden serving the Kansas City region, with thousands of plant varieties and extensive seasonal displays across formal gardens, woodland, prairie, and trails. The property began as farmland bought in 1948 by businessman George E. Powell Sr., became a Boy Scouts regional camp after his 1969 donation, and was redeveloped in the 1980s into a nonprofit botanical garden. Its grounds include major designed landscapes, native habitats, a large edible garden, a nature trail, and a chapel by architect E. Fay Jones. Seasonal exhibits and events have helped make it a leading public horticultural destination.
