George Strake, Sr. purchased the Strake-Gray Oilfield House in 1938 for his first oilfield superintendent. Originally located at 11585 Duffey Road off FM 1314, it was a typical front gable single-story bungalow-style house of its period and was unusual for its portable, prefabricated construction. Believed to have been ordered from a Sears and Roebuck catalogue, it was shipped by rail in pieces, transported to the oilfield, and then assembled. The house had a composition roof, an attached porch on the left side with four columns and railing, measured 30 feet by 50 feet, and contained six rooms. Its first occupant was Harvey Lee, Mr. Strake's superintendent from 1938 to 1946, and the second superintendent, Clyde "Dolly" Gray, lived there with his family from 1946 to 2014. The home offers an example of the simple life of the oilfield worker and of life during the Oil Boom, reflecting the character of the people who lived there.
