Built in Georgetown about 1878 as the two-story Snow Creek School, the school was dismantled and moved to a larger site in 1910 because space was limited. The land for the new site was donated by local merchant and postmaster Richard Darrah, and many students helped with the labor. Because Mt. Buckingham, named after a resident, was within view of the new location, the school became Mt. Buckingham School. At one time, a duel took place there after a Mr. Quimby accused Dick Smithers of stealing his sow; the argument was followed by gunfire, resulting in Smithers's death. Mary Paisley taught the last class in 1953. Afterward, the building became known as the Darrah School and was used for community events, and many local residents had attended it. Renovation was done in 1996-1996 by the Mariposa Kiwanis Club.
