Fort Privy 2
Military
1
Archaeological work located three privies, the military name for a soldier’s toilet building. Holes were dug to a depth of 10 to 14 ft. The ground walls were either lined with small logs or brick and stone, and wall alignment helped prevent collapse or cave-in. A log or wooden enclosed structure was then built over the holes with a number of toilet seats installed. These buildings measured 8 ft. wide by 10.5 ft. in length.
