Built by the Rock Valley Union Chapel Society, Stewart's Chapel served as a community center, church, Sunday school, and site of 4-H meetings in the late 1940's, and the Lindinia Town Insurance Company was also organized there. The chapel stands at the site of Stewart's Settlement, founded by William Stewart in 1850. Its importance between Portage and LaCrosse on the old Troy Stage Coach Road declined when the railroad passed through Mauston north of there. In 1989, Russell D. Robinson donated the property to the Juneau County Historical Society.
