Along Shoal Creek in Lawrenceburg, this site preserves the place where David Crockett lived and worked before his rise in American frontier history. After settling there in 1817, he used the creek’s water power for a powder mill, grist mill, and distillery, and by 1820 owned 614 acres while also serving as one of Lawrence County’s first commissioners and justices of the peace. A flood in September 1821 destroyed his operations, prompting his move to West Tennessee. Established in 1959, the park includes the mill and distillery site, reconstructed features, a museum, and modern recreational facilities.
