L. Robert Kimball, an Ebensburg native and lifelong resident, founded a two-person civil engineering and surveying company in 1953 with an engineering degree and $800, building it into L. Robert Kimball and Associates, a nationally recognized architecture, engineering, technology, and consulting firm. His leadership and teamwork were rooted in decorated military service as a U.S. Army Corps Captain in World War II and a Major in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the Korean Conflict. Guided by the belief that a company’s reputation is all it has to sell, he led through the core values of integrity, discipline, compassion, and understanding, which became key to the firm’s success. Under the guidance of L. Robert Kimball as Chairman of the Board and Jeff Kimball as President and CEO, the company shared its success, experience, and guidance with the Ebensburg community through projects including the municipal building, downtown streetscape, Ebensburg Tennis Center, Young Peoples Community Center, Memorial Field, and the water and wastewater treatment plants, while also contributing generously to numerous community and civic events and projects. Kimball kept the company headquarters in Ebensburg because supporting the community where he was born and raised remained important to him even as the company expanded into metropolitan areas.
