Lowe Peak is a 10,589-foot summit in Utah’s Oquirrh Mountains on the boundary of Tooele and Utah counties, about 27 miles southwest of Salt Lake City. The second-highest peak in the range, it is notable for steep local relief, rising about 3,800 feet above Left Fork West Canyon in only two miles. Its west slope drains through Ophir Creek toward Rush Valley, while water from the east slope ultimately reaches Utah Lake through West Canyon Wash. Set in the arid Great Basin Desert, the mountain experiences hot summers, cold winters, and sharp temperature drops after sunset. In 1988, a small plane crashed on its west face, killing two people.
