Elbert Heale "Jappe" Trenaman, born in Canada in 1874, came to Page, North Dakota with his mother in the 1880s. He and an associate named Shinn opened the Brass Rail, remembered by residents as one of the best-known places for meals. First completed in 1899 with a peaked roof and a small attached storage room, the building was altered in 1902 when the storage room became a kitchen, in 1906 when its sides were lifted to create a two-story structure with a flat roof, and again in 1913 when it was raised another three feet to create basement storage space. Standing close to the railroad tracks, it also provided upstairs lodging for workers passing through during construction jobs. In 1944, harvest hand Wilbur C. Nealon and his wife, Celia, bought it and operated it as the Brass Rail Tavern. From 1968 until 1971, the building served as a Community Museum before being donated to Bonanzaville.
