In the first years of the 20th century, Jonathan Pierce laid out the town of Blessing along the Galveston, Harrisburg & San Antonio Railroad at the junction of two major roads, and after a second rail company built additional tracks through town, local women founded the Blessing Library Association in 1912 to address the community’s educational and cultural needs, with Edna Woodruff as its first president. In 1914 the association joined the Texas Federation of Women's Clubs and helped organize the Matagorda County Federation of Women's Clubs in 1916. In 1917 A.B. Pierce, son of the town founder, donated a former ranch building that had also served as an office and bank, and the association converted it into library facilities. Under the direction of A.B. Pierce’s wife Adelaide, the association funded construction of a community house in 1921, and it became Blessing’s social and cultural center, hosting dances, movies, vaudeville performances, plays, graduations, concerts, immunization programs, and many other important activities. In the 1950s the association reorganized as a non-profit charitable corporation, ending its longtime partnership with the women's club, and in 1991 the facilities passed to Matagorda County, which continues to maintain the property as a social and activity center for area residents.
