In 2009, the City of Miamisburg initiated the Miamisburg Mound Reclamation Project with support from the Ohio Historical Society to safely and consistently restore the aesthetic beauty of the Miamisburg Mound and allow efficient, effective long-term maintenance of the site as a state memorial. Beginning that year, under the direction of the Miamisburg Fire Department, a controlled burn has been performed annually, normally in early spring, to eradicate invasive vegetation on the mound and promote the growth of native grasses. Later in the spring, maintenance crews chemically eradicate invasive vegetation and hand-seed bare ground with Little Bluestem grass, a native perennial grass. The City of Miamisburg, the Ohio Historical Society, the Miamisburg Historical Society, and volunteers have contributed to the improvement and preservation of the Miamisburg Mound State Memorial.
