The Southern Appalachia Railway Museum in Knoxville, Tennessee, founded in 1990, preserves and restores historic locomotives and rolling stock, especially equipment tied to former Southern Railway lines in East Tennessee. For many years it operated the Secret City Scenic, an excursion train over about seven miles of former Southern Railway track between Oak Ridge and Blair on an active freight line. Its collection includes diesel locomotives and passenger cars from several railroads and the U.S. Army, including Southern EMD E8 no. 6913, a 1928 railway post office car, and a 1926 Pullman dining car. Although passenger excursions ended in 2016, the museum continues restoration work and remains a significant steward of regional railroad history.
