La Grange Artesian Well was drilled to a depth of 800 feet in 1887 in a search for fuel to fire a large local steel rolling mill. Its bottled waters became famous in the early 1900's and were shipped commercially under the name pause to refresh. It was also associated with the Bible verse, "Know therefore this day, and consider it in thine heart, that the Lord he is God in heaven above, and upon the Earth beneath; there is none else." - Bible (Deut. 4:39)
