Wedgwood Rock, a large glacial erratic in North Seattle, was carried from Mount Erie on Fidalgo Island by the Puget Lobe of the Cordilleran Ice Sheet during the Vashon Glaciation more than 14,000 years ago. Long before the neighborhood was built, it stood in dense forest and served as a landmark for Native Americans. Known in the 19th century as Lone Rock and later as Big Rock, it became a local site for studying glacial landforms and for climbing practice. Despite failed preservation efforts and a 1970 ban on climbing, it remains a notable neighborhood landmark.
