Whitman is a town in Plymouth County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 15,121 at the 2020 census. It is located approximately 20 mi south of Boston on the western edge of the South Shore. The chocolate chip cookie was invented in Whitman by Ruth Graves Wakefield at the Toll House Inn.
