One hundred feet east of this point is the site of Fort Casimir, erected by the Dutch in 1651. It was taken by the Swedes in 1654 and called Fort Trafaldigheets or Trinity, then retaken by the Dutch under Petrus Stuyvesant in person on September 11, 1655.
