Metates came in many flat shapes and sizes, and their surfaces were used for grinding corn, acorns, or seeds into flour. Manos, meaning "hand," were shaped to fit the hand and used to crush seeds against the metates. Grinding bowls and mortar and pestle sets were used for grinding herbs, making medication, storage, mixing, or soaking. These items were found on local ranches and brought to the PVHS Museum for preservation and display.
