Arroyo Conejo Open Space is a 302-acre reserve in the western Simi Hills of northern Newbury Park, centered on a narrow ravine stretching about three miles with walls rising up to 300 feet. Much of it lies within Arroyo Conejo Nature Preserve, created to protect scenic land, wildlife habitat, and important archaeological and paleontological sites. Its varied landscape includes the South Fork of the Arroyo Conejo, wetlands, riparian vegetation, steep canyons, and oak woodland that support diverse wildlife, from pond turtles and mountain lions to eagles and owls. Local conservation efforts in the 1970s led to the preserve’s incorporation in 1977 and its stewardship by the Conejo Open Space Conservation Agency.
