Nature
The Thain Family Forest is part of the Old-Growth Forest Network, and forests in the network will forever be protected from logging and open to the public. At the heart of the forest, an orientation point introduces this rare natural treasure and serves as a starting place for visiting sites that include the Spicebush Trail overlook with views of the Bronx River beneath towering historic trees, Hester Bridge, a historic camelback structure crossing the Bronx River and joining the two parts of the forest along both sides of the riverbank, a waterfall re-engineered in the 19th century by the Lorillard family to power their tobacco mill, and the overlook on the new accessible Mill View Trail, which offers reflection and views of the landmark Lillian and Amy Goldman Stone Mill, built in 1840.
