Mineral Mountain is a 6,503-foot peak in Mount Rainier National Park, about 5 miles north of Mount Rainier’s summit in the Cascade Range. Set among ridges and glacier-carved terrain on the mountain’s north side, it offers views toward Old Desolate and the Winthrop and Carbon glaciers, with access by way of the Wonderland Trail. Its name preserves an earlier hope of finding valuable minerals there and was officially adopted in 1932 by the United States Board on Geographic Names. The peak lies in the park’s marine west coast climate zone, where Pacific moisture brings heavy precipitation and winter snowfall, while July through September usually offer the best conditions for viewing or climbing.
