Deschutes River State Recreation Area is a compact Oregon state park at the confluence of the Deschutes and Columbia rivers east of The Dalles. Shaped by its riverside setting, it supports camping, fishing, hiking, mountain biking, equestrian trail riding, boating access nearby, and seasonal hunting. The Dalles chamber of commerce began promoting a park here in 1955, and after years of study the state assembled the present 35.1-acre site in 1963 through purchases from the Columbia-Deschutes Power Company and the Miller family. Despite its small size, it offers year-round camping, including recreational vehicle and primitive sites, and reflects the Oregon Trail route with a covered wagon rental camp.
