Point Hueneme Light marks the southeast entrance to the Santa Barbara Channel at California’s Port of Hueneme. The current buff-colored Art Deco lighthouse, built in 1941, replaced an 1874 station that followed construction of a 900-foot wharf in 1872; the earlier light was designed by Paul J. Pelz. After the wharf was destroyed in a 1938 storm, creation of the Oxnard Harbor District and completion of the port led to the present tower. A fourth-order Fresnel lens served both towers until 2013, and the 1899 lens was retired for public display. The site is still operated by the United States Coast Guard and is also associated with the offshore wreck of La Jenelle.
