Slate Run Living Historical Farm preserves Central Ohio's agricultural heritage and explores the relationship of humans with the land through a family farm that raises livestock and mixed crops as visitors observe and participate in activities typical of an 1880s farm. It reflects a period when America was rapidly changing from a society of family farms centered around small communities to one increasingly dominated by factory production and large cities. The land has been actively farmed since the early 1800s, and numerous families lived on the property and modernized the buildings to suit their changing needs. After the land was purchased for a public park, the buildings were researched and restored to their 1880s uses and appearance. The Gothic Revival style house was built in 1856, and the barn was built in 1881.
