In March 1887, the Franklin County Commissioners announced construction of a bridge in Madison Township over Little Walnut Creek at Kramer's Ford after area citizens petitioned for a bridge to carry agricultural products to the canal and railroad. Michael Corbett of Groveport contracted to build the abutments, and the Columbus Bridge Company built the covered bridge for $2,690.00 under the supervision of company vice president Reuban L. Partridge, using his patented truss system of double and triple truss members made of pine and oak. In the 1930's, the road crossing the bridge became State Route 674, and in the 1950s the road was redirected to bypass it. In 1990, the county hired Abba Lichtenstein & Associates to evaluate the bridge's condition, and the W.J. Seidensticker Company repaired and restored it with original and new materials. The bridge, the last covered bridge in Franklin County, was rededicated on September 1, 1991, when ownership was transferred to the Village of Canal Winchester.
