Spread Eagle Barrens State Natural Area is a 7,155-acre protected landscape in northeastern Wisconsin in Florence County, owned by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and Wisconsin Energy Corporation. Designated a State Natural Area in 1995, it emerged from a broader conservation plan approved in 1993, with the first major land purchase completed that year. Despite its name, the barrens are an open mosaic of grasslands and barrens with scattered jack pine, red pine, scrub oak, and quaking aspen. Managed through timber harvesting and controlled burns, the area supports diverse wildlife and includes habitat shaped by the Pine and Menominee rivers.
