Built about 1865 by Irish stonemason Pat Cavanaugh, assisted by Dick Barker, the Old Rock Store stood at the site of gun battles in Dog Town, now Tilden, during the lawless era of the 1860s and 1870s, and it was preserved beginning in 1929 by owner Clifton Wheeler.
