Obstruction Peak is a 6,450-foot summit in Washington’s Olympic Mountains, within Olympic National Park, at the eastern end of Obstruction Point Road on Hurricane Ridge. The mountain’s name arose from an unfinished 1940s road project meant to form a loop from the Elwha River to Hurricane Ridge and Deer Park toward Port Angeles, but loose shale and unstable slopes halted construction there. The peak is also a triple divide, with runoff feeding tributaries of the Elwha River, Dungeness River, and Morse Creek, all reaching the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Its marine west coast climate brings heavy precipitation and especially snowy winters, while summer usually offers the clearest views.
