Blue Mountain is a 6,004-foot summit in Olympic National Park on Washington’s Olympic Peninsula, known for the soft blue summer haze that inspired its name. In the Olympics’ rain shadow, it is drier than much of the range and offers one of the more accessible high viewpoints in the area, with sweeping views across the Strait of Juan de Fuca to Vancouver Island and, on especially clear days, to Mount Baker. Its slopes drain toward the strait, the endemic Olympic bellflower grows near the summit, and its recent history includes the destructive Dungeness Fire of 1891 after settlers’ clearing and logging helped trigger major fires.
