Columbine Work Station is a small Forest Service complex in Coronado National Forest near Safford, Arizona, on a high point in the Pinaleño Mountains. Built in 1935 by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Depression, it exemplifies remote administrative centers created to support work in national forests. A CCC unit from a camp about five miles away constructed the station in 1934 and 1935. Its main residence was designed in the Forest Service bungalow style, and its barn is notable for not following a standard Forest Service prototype. The site later gained recognition for its architecture and remains in use for summer maintenance activities.
